Viber for Blackberry is something you should see in your hands very soon. When we recently posted about Viber app for Android, the Viber dev team commented that the application is in the hands of Research in Motion (RIM), the official Blackberry people. Once they approve the Viber for Blackberry app the app will be officially launched. Viber for Blackberry will be available for all supported Blackberry OSs and devices including Blackberry Torch, Blackberry Curve, and Blackberry Bold.

Viber team has instigated curiosity by leaking a few pictures of Viber on Blackberry. The one attached above is one of those pictures. Here is another one with a better look for you.

Features of Viber for Blackberry
Similar to Viber for Android and Viber for iPhone, you will be able to make free calls to anyone using Viber on his/her iPhone/Android/Blackberry devices. You will also be able to send free text messages to other Viber users.
We are not sure about the cost but the speculations are that the cost will be Nil. You will be able to download Viber without much ado and without paying anything.
Viber will be compatible with a gamut of Blackberry devices including Viber for Blackberry torch, Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Curve, Blackberry 9700 and others.

Viber team has launched Viber app for Blackberry and Windows Phones. You can now download Viber for Blackberry straight from your Blackberry appworld. However, there is a problem with Viber app for Blackberry phones. You will not be able to make phone calls to other Viber users. We are not only talking about those Viber users who use Viber on their Blackberries, but you cannot even call those who use Viber on their Android or iPhones.
We have done another post on Viber for Blackberry that we have attached below where you will find a lot of information about using Viber on your Blackberry phones. It can give you free text messaging as well as free picture messages to all your friends. Please let us know if you have used this app and how do you feel about it. It is kind of discouraging that after such a long wait Viber team only launched the app with significantly reduced features. Come on guys at Viber team, it’s been long enough and you should now launch Viber for Blackberry.

Viber for Blackberry has been released along with Viber for Windows phone. We recently posted about Viber for Blackberry and said that it will be released soon. Viber team also commented on the same post and told us that we were only a few weeks away from the real App. Well, now you can download Viber for Blackberry. Although, you still can not make phone calls, it lets you send free text messages as well as free video messages to your friends on Viber. Viber team has released it succumbing to the pressure that our readers have created 
. Keep commenting and provide them feedback so that the Viber team can make necessary changes.

You can download Viber for Blackberry as well as Viber for Windows phone from Blackberry app world and Microsoft marketplace respectively.
If you are using a Nokia phone with Windows OS this is perfect as you can use Viber for Nokia phone too.

Update: Viber team has said this a number of times that they have been working on Viber for Blackberry to have calling option. Currently a private beta testing phase is taking place, after which we hope to release Viber publicly to the world.

I have used viber on htc and iphone, and I tell you all, its the most valuable application on your device. I have now Blackberry Bold 9780 and am waiting VIBER to be launch for BB.

I have been waiting for viber on my BB since I used Bold 9000. Till now, I changed 4 BB phones and keep waiting for viber on my BB9900. How many devices I change before viber's released? I want both BB and Viber. Come on..

About VoIP in Blackberry – developing a VoIP (calling) system is much trickier since there are limitations in Blackberry itself that make implementing VoIP very complex, but we're working hard these days to overcome these obstacles and also include VoIP

seems like although Viber and RIM are teaming up which is for a great and wonderful cause, it is only obvious that any updated release date for free calling is TOP SECRET / G-13 CLASSIFIED. But then again, Blackberry customers should be used to this because there is no such thing as a Blackberry customer service phone number – please send RIM an email with your concern because their technology sucks balls – Anyways, point is, whining and complaining won't get you an answer with RIM. Viber, kudos for even making this attempt considering Blackberry/RIM considers themselves bigger than God. P.S. Santa is real.

I also have a blackberry curve 8520 and am waiting for Viber to become available, but with the complete package. So as you have told us many times to be patient then that is what we must be. I love my blackberry! But this is total bullshit! Coz eventually viber app may just discontinue for blackberry, lol … That's how complicated and messed up blackberry team is.
Anyways, let's see how long they're gonna make us wait for the calls option. The truth is, I'm sure its already there but viber and blackberry aren't comming to a mutual understanding yet!

Sorry but viber only with messaging is useless! I have whatsapp and bbm for the messaging. I thought that the calls would work too but its been a while that they say “coming soon”. May be in 2 years

I have Blackberry Torch and did download the Viber App. I am able to text send pictures to other Viber users.
As soon as it got installed it sent a message to all my contacts that have Viber on their phones. Now I'm waiting till they announce that I can make the phone calls for free. My iphone friends are using it and they are excited to call their iphone friends around the world!!!! Please hurry and fix this for all blackberr users!!!!

Yes, it is frustrating that we need to wait so long. Companies such as Rebtel are able to use Blackberry for calling while Viber, which should be the first one to get it right is not able to. However, the Viber team is listening and we are sure they will launch the full fledged Viber versions for Blackberry soon.

Please try to restart your phone. If that does not work, uninstall the Viber app and then reinstall it.

We have not heard any updates from Viber team about viber for Blackberry. However, they have announced the HD-Voice calls over Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia Only), which was launched at the same time as the Blackberry Devices. Hopefully they will launch this feature for Blackberry phones soon too.

For over a year calls on Blackberry have been “coming soon” or “just around the corner”. Will you please tell me why Skype can give me an App for calls on Blackberry and not Viber? Let’s face it:
1. Blackberry is down but not out and will be a continuing brand.
2. From the posts here most Blackberry users are interested in the call feature, not sending stamps or labels or legends or 6 packs of Miller Light … ok maybe the latter … so maybe it’s not the complicated world of Blackberry OS that’s the problem, maybe your app is too darn complex and has features that people do NOT want.

I honestly tell you that I have never seen a company so bad at promising things. They have promised more than 100 things by now and not even one has been delivered till now. I understand if they say that it is going to take long, or that they don’t have any plans to upgrade but it seems they keep promising one after the other without any intent of delivering it. They have now started another circus on the side where they are launching Viber for PC. God knows why they want to make it hard for them. If there is anything that can keep a business going, it is the honesty with your customers but it seems Viber team has become complacent with the amount of users they have gotten. They just don’t realize that it takes a company like WeChat only a few weeks to launch an app to get Viber out of the market. I hope they listen and do something about it.
Promising much and delivering nothing is bad enough, but I was furious with the patently bad and misleading excuses made by Viber for failing to fully develop the Blackberry App. In one comment above a “member of the development team” said they were having difficulty because the Blackberry OS made VOIP “trickier” because of “inherent limitations” in the Blackberry OS.
1. Why can we use stuff like Skype and other VOIP Apps on Blackberry?
2. Viber didn’t know this when it started? “Inherent limitations” are kind of obvious like an Atari XL 64 mainframes.
3. Now that they know, why do they still string BB users along?
The absolute bottom line in my estimation is that they let the app die because of the Blackberry market was shrinking and they bet, incorrectly, that the brand would disappear.
Besides,if you want to talk about complexities and limitations of OS, just think of all the myriad flavors of Android out there, each with it’s own quirks and limitations, modified and further limited by both the manufacturers (e.g “Sammysang” *) and the individual carriers (e.g. “Verandazon” *)

Those are valid points and I really hope Viber team reads it. However, in my experience they hire people every 6 months or so to go to different Internet outlets such as Free Calls Hub and promise that they are about to launch something orgasmically good. I doubt if these people are even in touch with the developers.
If Blackberry is taking so much time to upgrade Viber from free texting to free calls I will sell my blackberry and buy an android phone and use the free talk facility

Viber is the most annoying app out there. They simply suck at application development. Not only that they suck at Blackbeyy app development, they make false promises which further annoys users. If I track back their comments, they have been promising free calls feature to be added soon since over a year or so now. I wish they were closed down already.
